Study Abroad For Teens And Adults

The Wonderful Experiences of Studying Abroad Programs for Teenagers
As a child grows into adulthood, most parents agree that exposing them to a wide variety of culture helps them to be more mature, have a more broad view of the world, and be better people. Certainly adding culture to a teenager's world better prepares them to be adults that have more to contribute to society in contrast to children who grow up without having exposure to culture and diversity.

This is one of the reasons why study abroad programs for teens were created. International youth programs such as teenager study abroad programs help to broaden the minds of youth, and open them up to different worlds and new perspectives. While many parents agree that international youth programs are essential to youth, many are unfamiliar with what types of programs are available and the many benefits there are in programs such as study abroad programs for teens. The great news for parents who are considering summer abroad programs for their teenagers is that in addition to the cultural experience and wider life perspective that is gained, often there is an aspect of language immersion study for teens as well. While this is not always the case, studying abroad in many countries does offer a great opportunity for language immersion study for teens as well. For students who have studied a particular language in High School, advancing their foreign language skills and applying their knowledge hands on can be an enriching and fun experience that can last a lifetime.

Many parents who show interest in the teen study abroad programs have many questions about when their child would travel, who would their child stay with, how long the study abroad program lasts, and what does their child require to be a part of the youth study abroad programs. While these programs can vary, there are many youth study abroad programs designed specifically to be teen summer study abroad programs. Summer programs abroad for teens offers the perfect opportunity for evolving youth to experience another culture when they typically would be on summer break. This is the perfect time for summer abroad programs for a whole host of reasons. It is often perfect weather conditions, there is more of an openness of families to host students, and there is no losses of school work at home in areas that may be critical to their graduation.

Another major question about teen summer study abroad programs is what countries are involved in teen study abroad programs. Candidly, there are many, many countries that participate in teen study abroad program opportunities. Study abroad programs can include traveling to any of a variety of other countries or spending a semester at sea. However, the semester at sea is more of a limited opportunity program and does require more of heartiness; it can be a great program for students who love the sea. Truly, there is no one size fits all study abroad programs. The teen study abroad experience can be created and individualized in a variety of ways so parents that are interested in having their child study abroad should research all the options available for their child so they and their child can choose what is best for them.

Most teenage youth that participate in studying abroad, do so for the challenges that can be provided to them and the ability to experience one of the most memorable and growing challenges of their youth. For most students who participate in teenager study abroad programs the experience can profoundly affect their life in so many positive ways and offer them memories and educational enrichment that strongly affects their world views and their maturity level.

If you are interested in summer programs abroad for teens for your child, the opportunities abound and can be quite diverse. Many European countries participate in these programs and they are very popular. Additionally, there are many other Mediterranean countries and some far eastern countries that participate in study abroad programs. There are a host of requirements that students need in order to travel abroad, including obtaining a legal U.S. passport and in some cases a temporary visa. However, youth study abroad program facilitators can help parents and students to better understand and meet all the requirements necessary to participate in this highly educational, enriching and fun experience. For students who are unfamiliar with the foreign language of the country they are traveling to, many host families do have some ability to speak English to help students whom they host to feel a little more at ease. This also can help students to more readily pick up a foreign language through their host family.

Spanish Immersion Studies

Studying abroad might seem like a dream to most kids, but there are many programs that can help students who want to experience culture and a life outside their current country. In fact, an increasing number of American students are going to faraway lands for a semester of teen study abroad.

Sure, it looks good on their resume, but it’s also a scrapbook full of memories, and it's a chance to do something before being tied down to a family and career. Studying abroad is a good idea to almost 79% of people in the US, but only about 1% actually participates in study abroad programs for teens. However, after doing some research into the international youth programs available, a teen summer study abroad may be just the thing a young adult needs.

As a parent, most want their children to experience bigger and better things, far beyond what they accomplished. One of the things that teen study abroad programs can do is provide language immersion study for teens. While English is a recognized language, others like Spanish, German and French are also commonly used and can be learned during the summer abroad programs. Learning Spanish can also enhance job opportunities. When a person learns another language, it too can open up a whole section of employment. What employer doesn’t want an employee who took part in international youth programs and immersed themselves in the culture of other counties?

A teen study abroad program can be done in various counties. The US has many programs that are done through partnerships with France, Switzerland, Spain, Russia and even Germany. While these are just a few host countries that host the teen study abroad programs, the ability to eat new and existing foods, learn a language and embrace the culture of another civilization is enthralling. By participating in the language immersion study for teens, they are able to meet new and exciting people that they normally wouldn’t have had the chance too. By learning to speak as they do, they can communicate and learn valuable life lessons. When teens study abroad, they can also teach others about American customs.

In the past few years, teen summer abroad programs have become a component of the college experience. Some are trading stale classrooms in American for a semester at sea. Over the past decade, there has been a 250% increase in teen summer study abroad. The teenager study abroad programs has gained in popularity because it is an experience unlike non-other. While the majority of students will only select to go for one semester, there is an option to go for an entire academic year. Not all students will be able to afford to do this, or have a desire to, but those who can have the option to be gone for an extended period.

Typically, most study abroad programs are for a semester; however, there are about 6% of teenager study abroad programs that offer the option to stay for a year. Other youth study abroad programs and youth summer study abroad programs are sending children not for one year, but for their entire degree program.
Teens Abroad, a division of The National Registration Center for Study Abroad (NRCSA) has been helping young people build confidence and learn a new culture through their educational programs abroad and summer programs abroad for teens. As one of the youth study abroad programs that has seen an influx of students, they feel the program is increasing in popularity. Teens Abroad has summer study abroad programs as well as a level of service, expertise, program customization, and overall results not available through other sources of foreign language and culture training.
The summer programs abroad for teens offer them an experience to see how the people of this country live. While in American most choose a home with ample space in some parts and a high rise in another part, the same can be said of living abroad. Most American students who go to Europe on such teenager study abroad programs are surprised to learn that most don’t have air conditioning. In American, people consider AC a staple, but in the UK, it is a luxury most don’t have. That is just one small fact that can be learned from the teen study abroad programs.

Another difference that sets Teens Abroad apart from other study abroad programs, and their study abroad programs for teens, is that they evaluate and visit many different schools offering both language and cultural programs, and select only those which meet their strict standards. They see the benefits that this careful selection process brings and their parents as well share their enthusiasm that their children have after participating in the youth study abroad programs. Embracing the culture and trying new foods and experiences is what these summer programs abroad for teens are all about. The study abroad programs for teens are meant for those who have an open mind and can go with the flow. To those who can be flexible to the learning methods, they may have an experience of a lifetime.

Study Abroad and Gain Skills and College Credit

Why Participate in a Teen Study Abroad Program with Teens Abroad:
• To broaden one's foreign language skills
• To experience life and culture in another country
• To immerse oneself into intercultural exchange both academically and through unique, personalized experience program
• To combine travel, academics, and adventure into one incredible life-changing experience
Enjoy! Seeing another country, meeting people from around the world, eating new foods, understanding different lifestyles and gaining problem solving insights … can be fun! At least that is what 95% of our students tell us.

Getting the chance to take classes in a foreign country is literally, a once in a lifetime opportunity. Many people do travel to Europe in their lifetimes for work or for a vacation, both of which are wonderful experiences but very different.  Teen studies abroad allow your teen to experience new things with their peers, make new friends, and discover new places with new people. In addition, when teens study abroad, they are a step ahead of their peers in terms of cultural experiences, and they have an opportunity to learn a new language, in the native country, and earn college credit. Additionally, when you choose Teens Abroad, it will mean a safe experience with the staff at Teens Abroad who will supervise your teen while they are away.

Another positive of
teenagers studying abroad is that it will push you to do something out of your comfort zone. This positive could be thought of a negative for some, but I like to view it as a positive.  Being forced to do things out of your comfort zone are often the most rewarding experiences, things you've done your whole life won't make very significant memories.  Going on adventures as part of your teen study abroad program and experiencing another country’s culture brings rewards that are not taught in a traditional classroom setting. Student exchange programs provide students with opportunities that they simply could not get anywhere else. Whether students want to travel in order to earn credits, broaden their horizons or experience a new culture, there are plenty of benefits to be had. Traveling to another country while on a general study abroad program for teens, a French language camp program for teens, a Spanish language immersion program for teens, or any of the other great teenager study abroad programs that Teens Abroad offers is a perfect way to fully understand that country’s culture. Visiting other countries can give students a greater appreciation for different ways of life while expanding their education beyond the typical college setting. For example, a student studying a foreign language might want to spend time in a country where that language is widely used not only for the language benefits but for the customs that go with the language.
The most important positive is that you will be able to show your future bosses after participating in a teen study abroad program and a language immersion abroad program is that you are a risk taker in life! You are willing to adapt in a foreign country and still take classes and do well!  It also shows that you have an international perspective on things!  Global companies as well as United States based companies and businesses are looking for candidates that stand out, take chances, and have a broad base of experiences, beyond high school. These companies like to see that their future employees have an international experience!  Thus study abroad for teens is great for your résumé and career too!  It will open a lot more doors and make you stand out among your competition!
Fieldtrips and excursions are an important part of the Teens Abroad experience. At least once or twice a week teens are taken to see the sights, participate in cultural exploration and travel to tourist spots, chaperoned by local program staff.
Teens Abroad also offers Medical and Health related study abroad programs.
The objective of the Medical Language and Immersion program is to enhance foreign language and intercultural skills through a combination of general language training, focused vocabulary and cultural immersion. Most programs combine 1-3 weeks of foreign language classes with insight into local medical systems and practices. When an intermediate or higher level in the language is reached, students may have the opportunity to visit, observe, shadow and even take part in activities at local clinics or hospitals.

Study Abroad for Teens in Spain

When teens begin to think about what they want to do with their future, college is one thing that comes to mind, but during the high school years, many teens and parents consider the benefits of studying abroad for teens. Teens studying abroad both enhance teens culturally, but also is a great item to place on a college application.  Just some of the benefits of a teen study abroad program are:
  • Provides greater lesson intensity than is usually available in a domestic, non-immersive setting.
  • Provides a "living laboratory" which enables students to learn how the language is used in everyday life. Foreign immersion language training allows students to use newly developed language skills to interact in the local culture, and further reinforces skills learned in the classroom.
  • Allows the teen studying abroad to truly learn how locals live, determine what they feel is important, and why they do the things they do.
  • Builds confidence. For many individuals of all ages, the thought of being placed in a foreign atmosphere can be intimidating. Learning to interact and thrive in a foreign land allows students to gain confidence and self-reliance.
  • Allows participants to meet others from around the world who have similar interests. Lifelong friendships often develop.
Earning academic credit is another great benefit to study abroad programs for teens. Many high school students take a foreign language proficiency exam when they take their ACT or SAT exams. Students who have taken foreign language immersion programs abroad statistically score higher on these exams than students who have not studied language abroad. Depending on the score you get on these exams, you may be able to earn 'retroactive credit' or 'retro credit' for language study in the form of foreign language credits at the college or university you attend.
Teen summer study abroad programs, study abroad programs, international youth programs, and language immersion study for teens are all programs offered by Teens Abroad, a division of The National Registration Center for Study Abroad (NRCSA) dedicated to serving the young adult community! Generally speaking, one year of language study at the high school level is considered equivalent to one semester of language study at the university level... which is often considered equivalent to one month of language immersion abroad. On college applications, having experience abroad or participating in a teen study abroad program is what makes the difference when selecting between two top candidates with equal academic scores. In addition, showing you have volunteered is more and more becoming a graduation requirement at a greater number of high schools. These are just many of the reasons you should consider enrolling your teen in a summer study abroad program or a teen study abroad program, which includes international youth camps, international youth summer camps, French language camp and Spanish language camps. Speak with your teen about their thoughts on a teen study abroad program this year before programs become filled. Talk to them about learning a new culture and fulfill the volunteer and extracurricular activity requirement at the same time? Teens age 17 and older may be eligible to join adult language and volunteer programs in Mexico, Costa Rica, Honduras, Peru or Bolivia.
