Studying abroad
builds character
For some teens, summer is the time for pool parties, BBQ's
and hanging at the mall with friends. Sounds nice for a teenager, but some
parents would prefer their teen to put this spare time to better use. Unlike
many teens, most parents do not get a summer break and continue to work
throughout this time. For parents that are struggling with how to keep their
teens occupied during the summer school break or just don't want the summer
wasted, may consider study abroad
programs for teens. International summer
camps, Spanish immersion summer camps,
language immersion study for teens, or summer abroad programs. All of these
programs offered by Teens Abroad have
been giving for years, teens the experience of a lifetime while at the same
time earning academic credit while studying
abroad, gaining independence, and living another culture. In addition to
the programs mentioned above, Teens Abroad
has been sending teens on international
youth programs, youth study
abroad programs, teenager study abroad
programs and summer programs abroad and
their experienced staff has made these trips an experience that both the
parents and students applaud. Past students share that their experiences were an
enriching summer experience and one that will stay with them for a lifetime.
When many think of study
abroad programs they assume it is for college students only, but there are
many study abroad programs for high school
students and youth study abroad programs.
These study abroad programs are usually summer abroad programs and language immersion study for teens that
include Spanish immersion summer camps
and other international summer camps.
Teen summer study abroad facilitates cross-cultural understanding as well as
academic achievement. Students will take learning out of the classroom and into
the world; being taught through experience not just books. Teenager study abroad programs and teen summer study abroad programs remove
from their comfort zone and allow them to experience the world in whole new
way.
Language immersion
programs, summer Spanish immersion
programs, French language camps, and
Spanish language camps are great,
because they do not necessarily require that the teen study abroad, but rather study in
school setting. These types of programs are offered in many cities and mean
that the students are taught regular course curriculum in the non-native
language they are trying to learn. For example, native English speaking teens
in Spanish immersion summer camps will
be spoken to in Spanish by camp organizers. This camp may very well be the
teens' hometown, but the language spoken daily will be different than their
native-tongue.
Studying abroad
literally means living in another country while taking a few courses. Summer camps in Spain and summer camps in France are wonderful ways
to learn while abroad. Part of the day will be taken up with class, while the
other part of the day will have an organized activity or site-seeing excursion.
Teen study abroad is typically more
expensive and requires the parent to send their child abroad with others in the
program. The teen will live, eat and study in another country far away from the
comforts of home. What is great about studying
abroad is that they teach teenagers independence and how to be a savvy
traveler. Teen study abroad programs
provide an educational summer, allowing them to fully experience another
culture, another language and another way of life.
International youth
programs come in many forms. Some focus on the academic and learning aspect
like teen study abroad programs, where
the teen takes classes while living in another country for a period of time.
For example, summer programs abroad for
teens have different durations from June through August. Some programs are
more of a summer camp setting which can either be local or abroad, but teach
through recreation and the arts. Some summer camps focus on language immersion
while others offer a more comprehensive cultural experience. There are a
plethora of study abroad programs for
teens and more specifically, study abroad
programs for high school students. Fees and dates vary among the many
different programs which require the parents to do some research in order to
find the program that is right for their teen. A summer abroad or even a
language camp can make time away from the traditional school setting
educational and life changing.
